HISTORYThe first meeting of the First Baptist Church Christian Education Tutorial Ministry met on June 19, 2003. Rev. Yvonne Felton, Oganizational Head of the Christian Education Department and Deacon Bill Humphrey, conducted the meeting. Interested persons came together to brainstorm ideas about what was needed in order to start a tutorial program at our church.The purpose was to help our children improve their grades in school. Rev. Felton appointed a Steering Committee to organize the program. Rose Adams was appointed chairperson. Other members of the committee were Evelyn Carter, co-chair, Deacon Bill Humphrey, Janice Raynor, Lydia Grier, Dennis Jones and Alice Webb. The committee worked diligently to put the program together and registered more than 45 students. Tutors were solicited to tutor Math and Language Arts & Reading for Special Needs and Grades 1st through 12th. A parent orientation session was held on October 21, 2003 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 204. The Mission Statement, Organizational Structure and Program Guidelines were established. This model has continued to serve as the base for this program as we continue to grow and expand. Our focus and commitment is for our children. |
